AVG Anti Virus 9 for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7
To Complete the Online Live Update
Athough AVG is programmed to automatically update each day, it does not always update completely. We suggest you check every other day and make sure you have the most updated protection.
- Double Click on the AVG Icon beside the clock or right click on the icon and left click Open AVG User Interface. This will open the AVG main window.
- Connect to the Internet if not already connected.
- Click on Update Now on the left.
AVG will go out and download any updates.
A new window will open telling you that the Update was finished successfully.
To check you have downloaded all updates, left click on Update Now once again.
Repeat this until AVG states there are No new update files are available.
Select Finish to confirm and exit AVG unless you wish to run a Full System Scan.
To Complete a Full Scan of your Hard Drive
As long as you are running AVG's Live Update each day, a full scan should only be necessary once a week.
- Double Click on the AVG Icon beside the clock or right click on the icon and left click Open AVG User Interface. This will open the AVG main window.
- Left click Computer Scanner on the Left.
- Make sure all 6 boxes are ticked. Under these left click Additional scan settings.
- Decide whether you wish to scan All file types or Selected File Types.
- Unless you suspect viruses may be on your computer, chosing Selected file types should be adequate.
- Left click Scan infectable files only and Scan media files.
- At the bottom also tick Scan files without extensions.
- Once all is selected left click Start scan.
- AVG will do a full scan for you.
If the Full Scan detects a Virus or Trojan, AVG will try to heal it. If this is not possible then AVG will either remove it to the Virus Vault or ask you what you would like to do. Always remove it to the Virus Vault. Once the infected file is moved, it no longer can cause any damage. This version of AVG is also searching for Spyware and Malware. You will find AVG will also show low threat files and tags. As far as we are concerned, remove anything it finds to the virus vault. But you do have a choice and you may wish to leave the Low Level files and tags in tact.
To Clean out the Virus Vault
On the toolbar select History and on the drop down menu select Virus Vault. This will open up your Virus Vault for inspection. If there are Viruses or Trojans being held in there, select Empty Vault to delete them and select OK to close the Vault window.
