  5. Click on Finish to complete, then close Norton. If your system needs to reboot, do so.

To Complete a Full Scan of your Hard Drive

As long as you are running the Norton Live Update each week, a full scan should only be necessary once a month.

The 'Full Scan', scans every File on your Computer for possible virus infections.

This can take sometime depending on the amount of Software you have installed.

To speed this up I suggest you Clean out your Internet Explorer Cache as I have documented for you, and Empty out the Recycle bin.

  1. Double Click on the Norton Icon down by the clock.
  2. Click on Scan for Viruses.
  3. Make sure 'Scan my Computer' is high lighted.
  4. Then down the bottom click on Scan.
  5. Another window will open up and the full scan will begin.

If Norton detects a virus you will see a '1' beside 'Detected'.

Norton will try to repair this file. If successful then you should see a '1' beside 'Repaired'

If Norton was able to repair the file it will try to quarantine the file to prevent it from causing any further damage.

When the Full Scan has completed, a full Report will be shown.

Hence you will know if all infected files have been repaired or removed to quarantine.

If Files have been removed to the quarantine you are safe at this stage but they do need to be dealt with.

To Clean Out Quarantine.

Click on Reports back on the Main Menu. Click on View Report beside 'Quarantined Items'

You will see a list of any files infected with all details concerning the virus and the file.

If these files are windows files, they will need to be removed and replaced with a clean copy.

If these files are pictures or documents you have perhaps received by Email, they may be safely deleted without causing any harm to your Computer Set-up.

Most Important, if you are not sure whether the Virus has been removed or that maybe Norton has reported it but is unable to remove it, call a Computer Technician. Most Technicians would rather deal with a virus attack on a computer at the time, than rebuild it a week later after the virus has wreaked havoc.
